Coaching Staff


Jackie
Bussard-Bertucci,
Head Age Group Coach
the daughter of legendary UT and Olympic coach Ray Bussard, is head age
group coach. She joined Pilot as a coach in 1994 and has since become
one of the top young swim coaches in the country. Jackie was named the
Southeastern Swimming Age Group Coach of the year in 1999,
2002, 2003, Age Group Chair of Southeastern swimming 2002-2006
and she was named Head Coach of the Southeastern Zone All-Star Team in
1999, 2000 and 2001. Prior to coming to Pilot, Jackie coached for
several years with the UT Continuing Education swim program and at swim
camps at Mercersberg, PA, St. Lawrence, NY and St. Bonaventure, NY.
We also have three assistant coaches who lead groups under the direction
of Coach Howland and Coach Bertucci. All of our coaches have extensive
experience in teaching stroke technique and each brings a different
strength to the program. The goal of our coaching staff is to maximize
the potential of each swimmer in our program.

Marshall
Goldman, Senior Assistant
Coach,
Pre-Senior/Senior II
Marshall is excited to
return to Pilot after coaching up in Boston for the past year. While in
Boston he served as the Brandeis University assistant coach. He was
also the assistant National team coach for the Bluefish swim club which
included a member of the 2007 World Championship team. Prior to his
stint in Boston, Marshall served as an assistant coach at Pilot working
with all the groups but mainly with the Black group. While with Pilot
he coached on the Southeastern Zone staff in 2005 and 2006. He was
named the 2006 Women's Coach of the Year for Tennessee State high School
as the Webb School coach. As a swimmer, he was a Junior National
Qualifier for Pilot. At Brandeis University he held school and New
England conference records and was named the 2003 Brandeis Male Athlete
of the Year.

Jamie
Tannhauser, Red Group & Gold Group
Jamie Tannhauser comes to Pilot from the University of Florida,
where she was a 4 year letter winner and an NCAA qualifier for the
Gators. She grew up in Seattle swimming for Salmon Bay Aquatics.
As an age group swimmer she was an Olympic trials finalist as well
as a member of the 2000 National Junior Team that traveled to
Spain. She coached the Sheridan Beach swim club in the summer of
2006. In addition, to Pilot she is currently working as an
assistant teacher at the Episcopal School of Knoxville.

Cheryl Schoenberger, Red Group &
Gold Group
Cheryl Schoenberger comes to us with a
myriad of coaching experience throughout Knoxville. She got her start
as an assistant at the Holston Hills country club before moving on to
the University Club. She served as the head coach for the Kingston swim
team which resulted in a league championship. Her performance with the
Kingston clippers caught the eye of the league five Village Green
gators. The gators moved quick and snatched Cheryl up, where she has
had the great privilege of working for renowned summer league veterans
Robin Wells and Anita Dinwiddie for the past three summers. On the high
school level, Cheryl has served as assistant coach for the Farragut
Admirals for the past two seasons. In those two seasons, Cheryl has
helped in the development of many swimmers into city and state
finalists. Her leadership helped lead the Admirals to the 2008 City
Championship. Cheryl has honed her teaching style and skills over the
past two years as she has led competitive swim clinics at both the Y and
Fort Sanders(nearly tripling the amount of participants). As a coach
Cheryl has become famous for her energy, dry land knowledge, eagerness
to learn, and most importantly her use of flair.
As a swimmer, Cheryl was a four year letter winner and state qualifier
for Coach John Woods at the Girls Preparatory School. Cheryl is
certified as an Instructor in spinning, Water Safety and Lifeguarding.
She spends her weekday morning as one of the lead instructors at the
Knoxville Operation Bootcamp. Cheryl has a beautiful one year old boy
Simon with her husband of four years, Mike Schoenberger.
